Embracing a new challenge

In 2013, when Boulet was about to turn 40, the 2:26 marathon knew that it would not accelerate more than 42 km. However, she longed to try. With encouragement from a friend, she met this challenge on her first trail run, a local bay area half-marathon. He humiliated her.

Although the pace may be slower than when she raced at the Olympics, Goucher is on a journey of discovery filled with new trails and perspectives that will change her life in the next chapter of her sports career.

Traveling with others

On the track and in the ultra race, there is also a team that makes a different effort with you.

Boulet generally includes her family, inviting them to hike to the redwoods after she finishes a long career. When you reach full exhaustion point on race day, remember the joy that comes from sharing the overall experience.

“It made me realize that the power of traveling with other people is much more significant than doing everything yourself,” says Boulet.

To connect with other brokers, look at local groups. Many riders who come to Trail Roots, a club founded by coach Erik Stanley in Austin, Texas, have suffered injuries as a result of road racing. Track running is not a “remedy for everything” for injury prevention, but Stanley sees a reduction in the regular pain of athletes making the transition: they run more smoothly and uneven surfaces help them develop versatile muscle strength .

Stanley generally chooses an unconventional route for group travel. She will travel with her friends along a dry bed without knowing where the road will take them. It is the true spirit of trail running.
