7. On Cloudswift
Price: £ 135
Weight: 290 g (M), 240 g (W)
Heel / Toe Drop: 7 mm

This is almost a very good shoe. It is a neutrally padded model that not only has the brand impact-absorbing cloud shells of the brand under its feet, but also a new type of midsole foam called Helion, which it claims has a longer lifespan without weight gain and a larger rebound without loss of damping offers. This will certainly be achieved, but only under certain Kacamata Rayban conditions. As part of the tests, we gave a pair of an ultra runner who put a few hundred miles in them for a week or two and reported no deterioration in the shoe or jumping level.
The energy return and responsiveness were widely praised, and runners felt able to ride faster with less effort – but only on slippery roads. As soon as the shoe is on slightly gravelly surfaces, e.g. B. towpaths of the canal, the ride felt flat and damp, which is not what you want for the price. If you run exclusively in urban environments, this is a good half marathon shoe. Otherwise, wait for future iterations.

8. Brooks Glycerin 17
Price: £ 140
Weight: 300 g (M), 261 g (W)
Heel / Toe Drop: 10 mm

If you’re familiar with glycerin, there’s little new here. However, if you’ve never come across it, the reason why it’s one of the most popular shoes and sneakers in the Brooks range, despite being at the top end of the price range, can be summed up in one word: comfort. On successive iterations, Brooks tinkered with the upper, outsole groove pattern, lacing, inner sockliner, and more to ensure that the glycerin felt as slippery as possible during a run.
Version 17 features the DNA Loft cushioned midsole material, which is the plushest in its stable. The boot for the launch campaign was all about the “pillow” feeling, and we agreed. The only problem is that we think Brooks overdid it a little. Injury-prone runners who value the softest experience possible will love the way your foot sinks into your shoe and how it sinks too far into the ground. An ideal easy or recovery shoe.
