5. Reebok Floatride Energy
Won: Best Value in 2019
Price: £ 84.95
Weight: 331 g (M), 276 g (W)
Heel / Toe Drop: 10 mm

Hallelujah! A high quality running shoe that costs less than a hundred pounds. Reebok, a brand that has been flirting with the running market for years, has now decided to take sport seriously and will launch more shoes in 2020. If this is the caliber that we can expect, we look forward to seeing what it has in stock. The floatride part of the name refers to Reebok’s wonderfully light and springy midsole cushioning.
It’s the brand’s answer to the Boost foam from Adidas, and it’s very cheap by comparison – soft enough for longer runs, but with enough vigor and responsiveness to be a decent option for interval runs and track sessions too. Our digital editor Ben Hobson summarized the feeling of each tester with the following comments: The shoe shines in its simplicity;
There is no fancy lacing system, the shape feels reassuringly normal and there are no disturbances from the midsole or the upper. For the way they feel and how much they cost, every runner should have a pair.

6. Nike Zoom Air Pegasus 36
Price: £ 104.95
Weight: 280 g (M), 264 g (W)
Heel / Toe Drop: 10 mm

One of the problems with protecting a legacy is that over time you become risk averse, which can affect your product. This is the case here with the legendary Pegasus, which is well into its fourth decade. These running shoes and sneakers, once the world’s best running shoes with mass appeal, are still good enough, but has lost a lot of self-confidence and is on the safe side.
It is pretty similar to version 35, although the tongue has been shortened to reduce irritation, a little amount of weight has also been lost and the aesthetics have been changed to bring the shoe in line with the rest of the current range, which is available in variations an electric green color.
Testers found it a decent but uninspiring ride; it was sluggish in speed or faster runs, and while the mesh was highly breathable, it let in water easily and dried slowly. For the price, this is still worth considering if you are someone who includes running in a wider fitness program, but there are better options for dedicated runners.
